The Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) at the University of Balamand (UOB) hosted Dr. Tony Kahwaji, Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies at Saint Joseph University of Beirut (Institut de Lettres Orientales – USJ) on the 3rd of March 2025, where he delivered a lecture titled “The Lost Identity Between the Real and the Digital” as part of the Arab 201 course, supervised by Dr. Dorine Nasr.
Dr. Kahwaji’s lecture addressed the issue of identity in the digital age, explaining how rapid technological transformations have made identity a dynamic and changing construct rather than a fixed entity. He highlighted the relationship between real identity, rooted in language, culture, and history, and virtual identity, which is formed in the digital space.
